Medjool Date Palm
Origin and Climate
The Medjool Date Palm is an exotic and stately palm that thrives in the warm Southern California climate. Medjool Palms cultivated in the U.S. can trace their genetics back to eleven trees imported from Morocco in the early 1900s. Being home to these regions, it is no surprise that this popular variety of palm is extremely salt water tolerant, and does exceedingly well near pools, homes, hotels, and beaches. Our largest grove consists of Medjool Date Palms and can be purchased in a variety of sizes, as well as “diamond cut” to create a beautiful and iconic look.
Characteristics
The Medjool Date Palm is an impressive and stately palm tree with a thick and lush canopy of fronds that can extend up to 30 feet in diameter and remains green year round. But despite this date palm’s lush canopy and spread, the variety is considered low maintenance, with recommended trimming taking place only once per year towards the end of May.
Medjool Date Fruit
The Medjool Date, known as the “Fruit of Kings,” is a one seeded fruit with a light brown tone and a sweet carmel like flavor. The date, which has been enjoyed for thousands of years, has what appears to be an endless array of health benefits including:
Naturally sweet
High in fiber (soluble & insoluble)
High in vitamins and nutrients including: Selenium, Magnesium, Calcium, Potassium, Iron, Zinc, and B Vitamins
Ability to reduce inflammation
Hormone regulation
We highly recommend the Medjool Date Palm to those looking for an elegant and lush palm tree that will elevate any residential or commercial landscape.
Deglet Noor Date Palm
Origin and Climate
Deglet Noor is translated as “Date of Light,” and is known as the “Royal Date” or the "Mother of all Dates”. The Deglet Noor originates back to Northern Africa and has since made its home in the sunny and arid climate of Southern California. Our Deglet Noor Date Palms can be purchased in a variety of sizes, as well as “diamond cut” to create a beautiful and iconic look.
Characteristics
The Deglet Noor is a palm of great stature with light feathery fronds (leaves) and can reach upwards of 80 feet tall. Like the Medjool Date, the Deglet Noor is also considered low maintenance, with recommended trimming taking place only once per year towards the end of May.
Deglet Noor Date Fruit
Smaller in size than the Medjool Date, the Deglet Noor is a one seeded fruit with a dark amber tint and a light honey flavor. Due to its naturally sweet taste, Deglet Noor is an excellent addition to many baked goods and recipes that require sweetening, and can be used as a spread or paste. The health benefits of this date abound with very a very similar nutritional profile as the Medjool Date, with the exception that Deglet Noor Dates are lower in sugar. The benefits include:
Naturally sweet
High in fiber (soluble & insoluble)
High in vitamins and nutrients including: Selenium, Magnesium, Calcium, Potassium, Iron, Zinc, and B Vitamins
Ability to reduce inflammation
Hormone regulation
We also highly recommend the Deglet Noor Date Palm for its elevated stature and beautiful esthetic, making it a great fit for any Southern California landscape.
